hey bob i have decided to replace my 454 ci with a new engine next year. i am coverting to a roller furler and am going to list my headsails on the for sale section in the next few days.
i need your help in chosing the correct replacement. i have talked to nascar and cart about engines and they feel the old hemi is an ok replacement. they are content to say that with the new engine i am looking at least to stay up with the group from boulder.
what more could i ask for dave 5722 tr/sk you know if you where named racecar bob. you would be able to spell you name backwards and still be racecar bob
Thanks for the interesting postings. Dave, I know very little about sailing but I think you should reconsider the roller furling. I do not race and changed mine to roller furling for the ease of just rolling it up. I lost quite a bit of speed. Of course part of this is my cheap sails and lack of proper trim but I don't think you will be happy.
I'll be looking for you on the lake as I'd like to compare notes if you go to the furling.
Dave, I hsve roller furling and think I've lost significant speed and appreciate the opportunity to reduce or increase sail as the wind conditions warrent.
And, when racing, at least with PRHF here, the roller furling gets a credit, a higher rating meant to offset the disadvantage. Is it sufficient? I have no way of knowing, but it is added to the handdicap and effects the corrected time. Our racing is open fleet not any one class.

Don - how many seconds do they give you for your roller furling? In our cruiser fleet we give 12 (and if ever they do race Non-Spin they don't get it - and it would not be enough anyway, which is why all of our roller furlers race in Cruiser Fleet!) Derek
I don't know what the allowance is. I suspect I can find out. I don't race my boat, but race on a friends c25 and we were talking about handicaps during one particularly windless race this past summer. I'll let you know.
