Did you get the thicker one? I know I'm definately careful not to step on it, but kids are kids...
According to the CD offering, it is 4-1/8" X 8-1/8" and it comes beveled on all 4 sides. The one I purchased dropped right in. Be careful with the sealant! I used a bit too much and had a little trouble getting it to sit flush with the deck. I also removed the interior piece as it was cracked and did not replace it. Seems to let in more light that way, too. P.S. I placed a brick on the skylight to help hold it down while the sealant cured. Seemed to help.
It is a piece of polycarbonate about 1/4" thick. I weigh 170 lbs and have stepped on it several times with no worry about it breaking. The original one cracked when I placed a knee directly on it by mistake. Since then, I've tried to avoid doing that again!

I got mine made to teh CD thickness, then beveled the edges down to teh Catalina Yachts thickness. We are not careful about stepping on it, and it has been fine. One caveat is that you need to bed it with a thick bead of a flexible sealant. In our case, boatlife.
ETA: if it is oversized, you can shave a little off at a time with a flapwheel on a grinder. Didn't burr up or melt or anything, and gives good fine control.
