Is it advisable to use products such as Minwax varnish or other products you can buy as a home improvement store on interior woodwork on the boat?

You might consider something that's a proven marine product first, i.e., something geared towards moist environments.

Once you apply something like a Minwax it's hard to go back if it's not really suited . . . and you may not discover that for months.

Hi Michael:

I use Howard Restor-A-Finish. If you search the site, you'll probably find some information. You can also Google it. Each spring, before launch, I clean all of the wood below and then apply Howard's (mahogany although some people like the Golden Oak) where needed and then apply the Feed-n- Wax. Amazing stuff.

Be sure the area is well ventilated or wear a respirator.

I have also used the Howards products(Restor-a-Finish and Feed-n-Wa)x. Easy to apply and lasts pretty long.
