Paul - I note that the "Exeter" is also for sale - wasn't she the destroyer that cornered the "Graf Spee" in Brazil and caused the captain to scuttle her? BTW - did you just step off the carrier and stay, or .....
Didn't see the Exeter in the list Derek, but I believe (not being a history buff) that was a previous ship of the same name. The Brits tend to pass on the ship names to successors.
I first arrived in the USA on HMS Ark Royal in 1986. Met my then future wife Peggy. Finished my 25 year navy career on the Ark Royal (R07) until my discharge in December 1988, final RN Payday was in May 1989 (they owed me a bit of leave )
FYI, the Ark was powered by the same engines, Marinized, as the Concorde!

Glen, I think both the Exeter and the Ark Royal were the latest in their line.
Reading up on the replacement for the Ark Royal in the position of Flagship of the Royal Navy, I see that HMS Albion has stepped up to that spot. Her sister ship is HMS Bulwark.
My first ship was HMS Albion in 1969 and next was HMS Bulwark in 1970. Seems weird to look back and see those names again. Man, I'm a lot older than I think
Paul talk about a strange coincidence the ship I was aboard when I saw the Ark, was the Caloosahatchee (AO 98). Your string got me thinking about her, so I looked up the Caloos and found she has a web site of her own www.usscaloosahatchee.org/ She was built in 1945, has a proud history of service, and was decommissioned in 1990. Finally sad to say in 2003 she was sold for scrap. This is the kicker, the scrap yard that bought her is in England. As of 2005 (last account I can find on her) she is still floating at the “Able UK Graythorp Yard near Hartlepool, England. At least up to that point, they have not been able to cut her up. This was because of the pollution (PCBs Asbestos etc.) that could be released in doing so.
