I need to splice into the back-up lights wire on the tow vehicle.

Can anyone recommend a truly watertight method for splicing into an exisiting wire run?

Most tow vehicle candidates have a connector inline so a trailering pigtail with a trailer connector can be connected, have you looked for it?

My Jeep was that way. Bought a really nice wiring harness from Mopar that was ready made to plug into the drivers side tail light and snap into place on the frame. Installing a receiver system and the wiring took maybe 20 minutes. That includes a smoke and a beer.

Yes, I have the GM pigtail which includes everything except the back-up lights. Those wires I will simply snip off the instert into the rear of the 7-pin plug:

However, for the back-up lights wire I will have to splice into the original harness - that's the splice I want to make watertight. Yeah, I'm making a bigger deal out of this than necessary. Normal people would simply use a crimp and call it a day.

You can get liquid rubber at Harbor Freight and elsewhere.
