Here's a mediocre picture of a sample logo I had made locally. It's plastic (not vinyl) ~1/16" thick and is <i>fractionally</i> different in length and heighth from the original. It can also be made from a product that has a white base with a black face which would look even more like the original - just not with the tapered edge.
Instead of interested parties contacting sign makers all over the country to download Pat's file, cutting out samples to achieve proper sizing . . . would it be easier for me to have a batch produced locally and provide them at a nomial fee?
Let me contact Catalina to see if there are any trademark issues. I know this has been a while in coming - we're almost there!

I want a pair. I was going to go to a sign shop tomorrow. But, I'd rather you add mine to your purchase. Can we get them fast?

My girl would love them for X-mas.

Well, after all the gyrations we've been through with this freaking logo - here's the response I got from my trademark inquiry with Catalina.

<font color=blue>Steve,
We now carry the old logos in plastic. Please call our parts department at 818-884-7700 ext.253 for price and availability.
Thanks!
David Graas - Technical Support</font id=blue>

They must have gotten enough inquiries for it to be profitable to make them again. I'm not going to interfere with Catalina's sales of spare parts - I'd rather see them get the profit to keep the company a going concern. Long live Catalina Yachts . . .

Seems like a lot of our time was used unneccesarily on this logo search. Does Catalina have a catalog, or some way for us to determine what parts they carry? It would have been nice to know about the availability of their logo beforehand.

When we began this quest Catalina Yachts was <i>not</i> selling the vintage logo. As I stated above they must have gotten enough requests that they figured there would be adequate demand for it to be profitable to begin producing them again.
I think little by little they are seeing the benefits of the web. I'd be willing to bet that someday the parts catalogs for all models will be online - even online ordering. As you may know, Frank Butler is not a big fan of the internet. He's always been a hands on kind of guy with customers (and that's not a criticism.)

DO NOT ORDER THE CATALINA LOGO!

David Graas at Catalina Yachts was mistaken....they DO NOT make the old vintage script type logo in plastic.

I ordered a pair believeing that they did. I got the new one with the block letters and the horizontal bar holding the letters together. When I called, talked to many people.....NO Vintage LOGO!!!

<font color=blue>Hello again David,
Based on your response below someone from the Catalina 25/250 Forum ordered what they thought was going to be the vintage (script) Catalina logo - but they received the new style (block) logo. After further inquiry it seems that Catalina Yachts does not carry the vintage logo.
So, back to my original question; would there be any trademark issues if the Catalina 25/250 Forum produced and sold the vintage logo for a nominal cost?
Could you please forward this e-mail to someone with the proper authority to answer this question?
Thanks again David and happy holidays.

Thanks for the heads up Alan . . . guess we'll revisit this after the holidays ladies and gentlemen . . .

I doubt that Catalina will have a problem with the logo production for existing owners of C25's, especially if no profit is made by OJ.

Put me down for a set.

I think this has surpasses the "Sheaves ought One" fiasco at this point. Has anyone definitively contacted catalina to determine if the ones they have on their shelves are indeed not the same? I seemed to recall the bad imitations being Catalina Direct and not Catalina...

Can I assume that you all are talking about the raised logo that is affixed to the gunnel near the deck train port & starb'rd ?

If so I would rather have a decal That won't be destroyed by some careless deckhand's feet.<font size=3></font id=size3>

My original logos are still intact. After reading all of the replies in this thread it seems to me that rather than worring about copy writes you should be after Catalina to pay you for all the advertising you will be doing with their logo on your boat.<img src=icon_smile_evil.gif border=0 align=middle>

<font color=blue><font size=2>The sample shown above does not have the beveled cut like the original which resulted in a thinner product - leaving less material protruding outward to catch one's foot on.</font id=size2></font id=blue>
