Drip, drip, drip on the inside of aftmost starboard window. I'm looking at the Catalina Direct window resealing kit. Who here has done this? Is it effective? Is it a huge deal to do, or just basically pulling out the old windows and replacing the gaskets? What are other viable options?
I've done, and so have several others. It is a job, but worth it. The only alternative that I know of is removing the windows, finishing the openings, and applying the stick-on modern windows - a bigger job that changes the aesthetics. There are some caveats if you go with the kit. Search the forum for posts on doing it to get some insight, and post before you start. Send me an email if you want the gory details - it would be a long post.
Just finished rebedding the port side a week ago. The aluminum frame pops out pretty easy after releasing the screws and frame from the inside. What I learned this year was to go the extra step and take the window out of the frame - frame held together by two small pieces of aluminum. Used silcone to rebed the window into the frame and then 4200 to rebed the frame back onto the boat. Big rain a few days later and no leaks - praise the lord. Work was tedious but well worth the effort - no leaks is heaven..!
