Can anyone tell me model number for the original lewmar winches? I need to order a rebuild kit, and want to be sure I get the right one. I searched the forum, looked through the parts catalog, etc. and found Catalina's part number, but could not find the Lewmar number.
Thanks.

From my observations, Lewmar 7's appear to be the standard winch, but if you want to be sure you are ordering the right kit, you might want to personnaly verify the model installed on your boat beforehand.

They are definately Lewmar single speed winches. Where do you find the number?

My '83 SR FK has lewmar 7's. It's etched on top of the winch. It sounds to me like a good excuse to upgrade to a self tailing one to me :).

I've been trying to justify the $1000 plus expenditure for two self tailing winches for years. I eventually came to the conclusion that, from a single-handers standpoint, I like the two speed standard winch. Self tailers are only single speed. I simply had to come up with a system for stearing, winching, and tailing and the same time.

The stock winches are Lewmar 7s. Replacement self-tailers are wither 14s or 16s.

You could try Winchers. I used them successfully for 12 years.
