I have an Horizon depth meter with a thru hull sensing device. I have never been able to get it to work as in sending a signal to the bottom or should I say thru the hull. Any ideas on placement and installation. I was told i could use toilet bowl wax as a holder but it has not seemed to work.
Is this a new depthsounder? There are a variety of opinions on where to locate teh transponder. My experience with our fin keel is that under the companionway is just fine, and the toilet wax works fine. I am of a very different opinion than many here though. A search to see the whole debate would really be a good idea.
I put a new Lowrance ChartPlotter/Fishfinder on my boat a couple weeks ago and used the toilet bowl wax.. the first time out the depth finder didn't work. This weekend I re-did it with more wax and made sure I had no gaps.. it worked great.. it's placed under the one fo the dinette seats.
I also used the toilet bowl wax method, placing the transducer below the companionway and behind the swing keel volcano, and it works very well. You need to be very careful with the wax, as you do not want any air bubbles or other voids in the wax. Make a patty larger than the transducer, place the wax where you want it, then push the transducer down into the wax. Do not push it all the way to the hull.
Also, test the transducer first by lowering it over the side into the water, and turn the unit on. You should get a reading. Then put it into the wax. When you get a reading there, it should be close to the other one.

If you could supply us with a photo or model # It might help. You might just need the processor reset.
