Does anyone have a Mercury/Quicksilver fuel tank with the 2-prong type quick connect. Mine has the round connector. Here's what I'm trying to find out: Are there two different 2-prong connectors, i.e. does the fitting on the tank have a longer lock post than the connector on the motor? I recently bought a Seasense brand Mercury-type fuel line connector (first pic) but the thumb catch will not lock onto the post on the motor. At first I couldn't figure out why, then I measured the post on the motor and the distance to the thumb catch in the fuel line fitting. There is a difference of about 1/4". Either Seasense goofed big time or there are two different Mercury-style male fittings out there. I just assumed there was only one. I had already tossed the packaging so I can't return the fitting (it was only $2.99 plus shipping) and I've bought a replacement from another Ebay vendor. just curious if anyone else has experienced this problem.
The distance from the base of the fitting to the indentation on the upper post in the second pic on both of my motors is 9/16", i.e. just over 1/2". Using a nail, I measured the distance from the thumb catch in the hole on the hose fitting to the end of the fitting and it was 1/2". On the new hose fitting I bought, the distance was more like 3/4". So I'm wondering if there are 2 different fittings, one for the motor end of the hose and a longer one for the tank end of the hose to prevent someone from attaching the hose backwards.
BTW, there definitely are two different sizes of round hose fittings, "Chrysler,Eska,Force" and "Honda, Suzuki, etc." The older Chrysler fitting is smaller than the newer Honda fitting. On one of my fuel tanks, the hose is fixed to the tank. On the other tank, there is a round quick disconnect. This whole issue came about when I decided to replace the black hose (the one with the round quick disconnect) with a new grey ethanol friendly hose and make both quick disconnect at the tank end. I've moved the older black hose to a third and much older tank that has the Chrysler fitting at the tank. This whole thing has turned into a bigger deal than I expected.

The fuel tank that came with my outboard did not have the quick connect. I just cut off one end of the hose and connected it to the fuel tank with a hose clamp.
cks,one of my tanks is like that, hose permanently attached at the tank. I'm going the other way, unless someone convinces me that I shouldn't. I'll be converting that tank to a quick disconnect, the round Honda/Suzuki type like the other tank. I have the round tank fitting for that, so it's not the problem. The objective is to have 2 tanks where the hoses are interchangeable. My initial problem was that the quick disconnect hose I did have was the older black one that needs to be replaced. So I moved the round tank-end fitting to a new hose.
Got it. I've also considered alternating between two tanks since I have a spare 3 gallon gallon. My thought process was to go the other way and get a second hose. Please let me know if your ebay connector works. Your method is obviously much more convenient.
I did find out from a local boat shop that the 2-post fittings on Mercury fuel tanks are slightly longer than the motor fittings. Since they look so much alike, this was done so people could not accidentally attach the hose backwards. So, when you buy hose fittings, keep that in mind and buy the right fitting for your application. Somewhare along the line, the problem was eliminated by using a completely different round fitting on the tank end, which is what I have on one of my tanks.
I also converted my tanks to either Yamaha or Honda fittings, I'm not sure which. I think the spring loaded round ones are easier to use than the Mercury fittings, all metal, and clearly identify which end goes where.
I've got the fittings all changed out so now I can keep 2 3-gal tanks in the fuel locker and switch between them by simply moving the hose from one tank to the other. The second hose will stay with the other motor, and I can also move the tanks between the 2 boats as needed.
