I just purchased a 1995 250 WB. Do I need to worry about corrosion from electrical currents in the water?
Thanks,

It depends on your local situation I would think. If you're in a Marina and going through your anodes in a hurry, I'd say yes. But I'm no expert, have just read a few threads here where guys have had problems.

It really depends on the marina. Best bet is to ask some of the other boat owners around you.

If you are at a marina with 110V shore power used by many of the skippers, then one or more of the boats could leak current into the water. It seems less likely without shore power. If you have metal parts below the waterline, you could experience galvanic corrosion.

You could ask your marina management if they routinely test the water for stray current. They may be more interested if you mention the risk of electrocution and drowning to any boat owners, guests or staff who happen to be in the water near a boat with faulty wiring.

Don Casey's Complete Illustrated Sailboat Maintenance Manual has a chapter "Sailboat Electrics Simplified" in which he discusses every aspect of good and bad wiring - DC and AC - on sailboats, including the risks with galvanic corrosion.

Does anyone know where, on what part of the boat, the electrical system is grounded on a 95' 250 WB?
Thanks
