Monday night I put a spark plug under my pillow before bed time, and it was gone yesterday morning.
Doesn't matter though, I'm gonna have the money to buy a new motor anyway. I put mine on Craigslist and there's a guy in Australia who wants to buy it for his brother as a gift. His brother is in France on business right now, but when I ship the motor to Brownsville he's going to send me a cashiers check for twice what I'm asking.
I'm also going to have alot more money soon as I helped a Nigerian Prince free up his inheritance. I got an email from him asking for help transferring money, and I get to keep $50k for my troubles.
I was going to have them deposit it directly in my PayPal account, but I got an email that my account had been flagged for security reasons....I followed the link, logged in and confirmed my account info, password, Social Security number and drivers license number. Once that gets worked out I'll be able to transfer the money from the Nigerian Prince and ship the motor to Brownsville. <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">

I'm getting $5.6 million (40% of $14 mil) from my Nigerian bank manager! I'm placing the order for my Hinckley Sou'wester!
Sure...send me your spark plugs....I'll conduct a Motor Fairy ceremony, make an offering and put the plugs under my pillow.
If you want, I can get you in touch with a Nigerian Prints.....that's how he spells it in Nigeria....foreign countries have their quirks.....or maybe you should talk to Dave's since there's more money involved....
Seriously though, Ray is right....I do need to find out what happened...or at the very least do some preventative maintenance. Even though we motored for an hour + last night, I don't have 100% confidence in the motor....although I do have 2 sails and 2 oars. I think I'm gonna clean the fuel screen (if there's one), replace the lines and install a filter. A new spark plug is in order...they're cheap and 2 strokers always run better with a fresh plug.
I wouldn't be too concerned about the fairy... but you might have a reincarnate of the Hansen Sea-Cow...
"Our Hansen Sea-Cow was not only a living thing but a mean, irritable, contemptible, vengeful, mischievous, hateful living thing.... [it] loved to ride on the back of a boat, trailing its propeller daintily in the water while we rowed... when attacked with a screwdriver [it] fell apart in simulated death... It loved no one, trusted no one, it had no friends." -Steinbeck-
Joe, Sorry for chiming in so late. I also have a 5Hp Yamaha 2- stroke and have experienced the same problems. Mine was related to the fact I have a built-in fuel tank on top of the engine and a tee to add a second external tank. The fuel bulb on my external gas line was faulty and would allow fuel to flow back into the external tank. I would try to get it running using only the internal fuel tank and see what results you get. Make sure the switch is turned towards the fuel tank indicator when using the internal tank. Turn it off when using the external tank. When mine would die it would almost always flood as I tried to get it running again which sounds like what you are experiencing. Also make sure you are not sucking air from the valve that controls which tank you are using. There is a small nut that holds that valve together that comes loose on mine occasionally. It drips gas when that happens. This is all dependent on whether your motor is the same as mine with the tank on top.
Yes, I do have the internal tank as well, but I've never used it. I have no idea if the seals or anything in it are good.
I'm still going to bring my motor home and work on it. I'm just going to do routine maintenance and a tune up....I'll check out the internal tank as well and get it functional. Nice place to keep some reserve gas.
I'm sure the Hansen Sea Cow hitched a ride on the 4th.....
Joe, The premise of my previous post was to alert you the dual tank system is easily compromised if the internal tank is empty and you have the valve set to the open position. In that instance you are sucking air along with the fuel from the external tank. Two things to try: 1. Turn the switch off with the external tank connected and see if the problem corrects. 2. Turn the switch on, put fuel in the internal tank and disconnect the external tank. See if the problem corrects. Remember the external tank is connected at a tee in the fuel line between the valve and the carb. Turn that valve off if using an external tank or on if using the internal tank.
Turned sideways: Fuel Off Turned Up: Internal Tank Turned Down: External Tank.
I always turn it sideways when I'm done with the motor for the day. One of the things I do when I put it down in the water the first time is turn the fuel on, and it stays on until I'm done for the day.
I'll check that whole system for leaks and condition.
Off topic but......got this from our commodore....
Invitation to Sailors and Racers:
You are very cordially invited to attend our 37th Ol' Man of the Sea Regatta at the Fort Worth Boat Club (FWBC) on beautiful Eagle Mountain Lake on October 7-9. The Notice of Regatta is attached and online registration will be available on our website at www.fwbc.com. Make sure you plan to attend the fun PARTY we will have on Saturday after the races. We have men's and women's showers and lockers so you can stay and enjoy the club, bar and swimming pool, then have dinner and listen/dance to live entertainment. We would love to have you come sail and party with us. Please call the office at 817-236-8393 if you have any questions not covered in the NOR. We look forward to seeing you in October.
I have not received an invitation....but then I'm not part of any sailing club so unless they put flyers up at the marina I wouldn't know about it.
I'd love to attend though. I'm considering joining the FWBC next spring and moving over from Harbor One. I'd like to spend a day at the club, try the facilities, participate in the race and have dinner.

When you going to come up with those light covers and have a sail with us?

You have AC?
I have not been that active the last couple weeks due to the heat. I've been out a couple times, but once was right at/after sunset...the other time was the day I spent "breaking my rule", and we spent most of the day at a mooring ball swimming.
I have been out riding my bike, but I don't leave the house until 11:00 or so and come home by 3:00.
I love summer and I don't mind the heat as long as it's around 95 or so....this 105+ with a heat index around 110 has got to go! I just don't handle it well, especially if I'm having to work at something.

No AC, just a couple battery operated fans. Amazingly, it's nice enough at night to sleep on the boat. This is Sunday morning...
