I know this is going to sound stupid, but i broke one of the blocks on my boom for my jiffy reefing. It is a harken block but it looks like it has a rivet in it (just one) and it sheared off. I did this myself of course trying to cheat and take up some slack on the main halyard. Can i just size a screw and re-attach??
Hi John. Thx. I ended up beefing it up a little and drilled a couple new holes and a slightly bigger block.
My wife and I just bought our first sailboat this year. There was a 2005 C250 that came available right in our area that was pretty much perfect for us. It was almost identical to the boat we learned on so it was very familiar.
We are currently living in Calgary Alberta and moor it at the Ghost Lake reservoir. Great lake for wind coming off the mountains. Although lately it has been a little to strong.
If you have big wind, remember that our boats seem to be a bit overpowered with the main fully up and the genoa fully extended. Using that jiffy reef early and you'll find the boat performs very well. I had around 10 knots of wind yesterday, put in one reef, shortened the headsail and was making 5+ knots very comfortably. Only a little weather helm and just enough heel to feel like we were sailing.
