Had our monthly race this past Saturday. July is normally won by the boat that floats the fastest, but this year we've had winds earlier in the day than normal, so we had decent breeze for the race. In fact, we had a 90 degree wind shift about a minute before the start that caught everyone (but Chuck in Confetti of course) on the wrong side of the course. I had to break in a complete rookie for crew, my normal crew had some other higher priority function (something about the girlfriend's birthday, not sure if he has his priorities right???). Good thing the rookie got the hang of the tiller real quick (DaveR you might be replaced), and after a horrible start, we passed about six or seven boats to cross the line sixth. Chuck ran away from the fleet, beating his nemesis (32' O'Day) by about ten minutes.

Here's a shot looking ahead. Note the white speck just right of my stays and above my lifeline...thats Confetti

Here's one looking back at the fleet

And here's the rookie, doing a great job minding the helm

All and all, a good day for Catalina's, two 25's and a C22 (the black and grey camo boat pictured above) taking three of the top six spots. And the best part, I was able to infect the rookie with the sailing bug

Nice job Tom, glad it was a good day. I guess I'll have to step my game up a little huh!? Hopefully this new guy will come next month and you can work on getting me proficient on the spinnaker.

Hiya guys! Missed you Dave!! Hope the birthday party was fun!!! :-)

Yes, the Catalinas made a really good showing!!!! I especially enjoyed the post race trash talking at the bar with the ODay crew!! . If they beat us next time I will really get a load from them!!!

We were pretty lucky at the start to be close enough to the line to adjust how we were starting when the breeze shifted. I never get too far from the line however when the winds are as flukey as they were Sat morning, and it certainly paid off!

Congrats on the good finish!!! Now I want you neck and neck with me next race!!

Cheers!

Chuck
