I lived in China in 1986 and visited Harbin for the ice festival that winter. It's a great thing to do. Harbin is waaaay up northeast, quite close to the Russian border, and evidence of former Russian occupation is there - great big onion-shaped buildings and huge soviet-style department stores. Many good memories, like the 12-hour train ride from Beijing on a hard-sleeper car, playing chess with the other four occupants of our smokey compartment. Thanks for the reminder!
