Paul, never been to Annapolis, but friends that have attended both Annapolis and Miami say Annapolis blows Miami away. So...if you can use your points and get a decent flight, go for it.
I look forward to the Annapolis boat show every year. Annapolis is a GREAT town - loads of Irish pubs, decent restaurants, the USNA and a spectacular harbor. If you've never been, it is worth going to Annapolis even without the boat show.
The boat show is amazing. My brother and I make an annual pilgrimage. I wish we could spend more than the one day that we attend the show. It is enormous!
It may be difficult getting reservations in Annapolis as there are not tons of hotel rooms and exhibitors from all corners of the globe. You might consider staying in Baltimore which may have more availability during the show.
The sailboat show is great, especially if you want good deals on some new equipment, or if you are moving up to a bigger boat. I'm not in the market so I haven't gone yet. Annapolis has good seafood restaurants, bars, a maritime museum, Bacon & Associates marine consignment shop, and interesting music venues.
If you get to Annapolis, you might give me a ring and you (& Peggy?) would be welcome to go sailing on the Bay. My boat is NOT on a trailer and is always ready for a good daysail, except for this weekend. My boat, stripped down to the mast only, will sit in the parking lot of the marina on jack stands as Irene blasts us.
October winds are usually very good. Yesterday I had a South breeze of 10-15 knots with gusts to 25, and August is often dead!
NOTE-----The last hurricane to come up the bay was Isabel about 5 yrs ago and it did major damage to all towns on the Bay including Annapolis.. Most towns were under 6 ft of water .. Don't know what it would do to the Boat show plans.. Just food for thought Frank law "About Time" on a mooring in a creek off the the upper Chesapeake Bay 1983 swk sr
There are lots of hotels, motels within easy driving distance of Annapolis.
Beware of <i>boat show pricing </i> though - bit of a myth in my opinion. Ullman Ventura's everyday pricing was better than the Ullman loft that was at the show in 2010.

Weekend of 6-Oct. I was checking for tix and it seems you may be able to find a discount code somewhere. I googled the discount code, but nothing showed up Oh well, sounds like fun anyway! I'd really like to check out a 30 footer. Anybody got any leads or suggestions?
