Happy New Year everyone! Hope yours starts out better than mine!
The Wednesday before Christmas my company announced we were merging with another (larger) company. So after 32 years of service I may be un-employed in a few months.
Then today I spent the last 5-1/2 hours of 2011 at the emergency room with my wife who has been passing a kidney stone for the past 2 or 3 days. She's been having intense pain since 12:30 last night so we thought we'd better get it checked out. Thankfully, todays modern medicine has her feeling much better now and the Doc says she should be OK after this stone passes.
So we finally got out of the ER, drove home, and walked up the front door of the house to find water running down the outside wall and across the front porch.
Went up in the attic to find a water pipe split open and a pencil size stream of water spraying across the attic. Then went into the garage below the leak to find approx 20% of the ceiling soaked in brown water.
The real kicker of the day? My wife has been on my back for a while to get all of the boat cushions out of the front room (which we never use) and where they've been stored since I bought the boat 4-1/2 years ago. I kept them there so they would stay looking nice (keep in mind these cushions were only a few months old when I bought the boat and had really never been used). They still looked brand new!
So earlier this week after finally getting tired of the pressure to move them I bought some heavy duty plastic mattress protectors and placed all but one of the cushions in them. I then moved them all to the garage being very careful to stand them on end with the zippers up.
Guess where all the water dripping from the ceiling went? Right through the zippers and into the mattress protectors!
So now all but one of my boat cushions have been soaked in about 3 or 4 gallons of brown water. I got them out of the protectors and they are drying but I'm afraid the damage may have been done. Will see.
