How about this unit? Anyone tried it? It claims to not produce CO, yet uses combustion. I will be reading up on the alcohol/CO relationship...

Add another FF/EMT/SAR person to the mix. I will see if I can grab one of our four-gas meters and do a similar experiment on my C250.

Regards.

CSM, do a search for Origo, I think you'll find a lot of discussions on that heater.

In the camping world, alcohol stoves can be safely used in a vestibule, but there is still a CO risk. So I would assume the same for the WM product. My understanding is that if there is a flame, there is a drain on oxygen and theat automatically means CO...

I believe alcohol produces LESS carbon monoxide than petroleum-based fuels, but I'm not sure about NONE. I do know alcohol stoves generate a lot of slightly smelly water vapor.

ETOH has a higher ratio of hydrogen to carbon than long chain petroleum products, so it produces more water and less CO2 and CO as oxidation products. Carbon oxidation also releases much more energy than hydrogen oxidation, so it takes more pounds of ETOH to produce as much energy (heat) as petroleum and, consequently, more water vapor. Anything containing carbon that is burned will likely produce some percentage of CO.

If you are ready to add a butane grill to your inventory, search out primus vidar. I just got mine and believe it will work just fine. You are welcome to post a link and pictures for others to critique.
