Wife has done this a few times with cheapo phones. Finally just bought the insurance plan and of course, hasn't had any more oops moments. While replacing the bowlight I dropped a part which floated momentarily, so I hit the deck, reached as far as I could down into the water as it drifted down, and then I rolled off the deck into the water, lost my eyeglasses and the part. After a few dives I found the part and the frames, but no lenses. The $25 light cost me about $200 in progressive lenses. I think the mud under my boat must look like a yard sale of tools after 10 years! (guess the belly contributed to the roll off...will have to work on that.)
So far the only thing I've lost overboard is an extremely cheap piece of crap socket wrench....well, I didn't exactly "lose" it overboard. I "donated" it to the lake bottom.
Not a cell phone, but……….. Those of you with a Harken furler are probably familiar with the spacer that goes on the clevis pin when attaching the forestay. It took a dive this year in spite of my caution when I put the mast up. It is fortunate that the water in Little Sabine Bay is so clear that I could see it on the bottom. Lashing my extended shelling net to an extended boat hook saved me a lot of grief.
Getting the boat on the trailer in the position I wanted it in was a real problem. I had rebuilt the pads and because I did not know where to position them they kept moving and turning over. Lowering the mast worked great. I had built an A frame and a crutch with roller for the stern and that all worked as planned. I think I know what to do to the trailer to make it much easier next time. My hat is off to Doug - He went in the very cold water to place the pads in the correct position. Took him all day Sunday to thaw out.
