I've commented before that visibility (or the lack thereof) above/around my C25 was really surprising to me. I keep reading of people having problems seeing around/under their jib/genoa/spin. I wonder if something like this would work, mounted either on the bow or even atop the mast:

I made a jib pendant. Moved the tack to the top of the pulpit. I can see under my jib just fine.

Pointed where? And where does the TV sit?

Seriously, there are ways to raise the tack and/or clew of your headsail...

Might be fun to mount something like that on the bow for someone in the cabin to watch but I think would be useless as a visual aid. I also use a jib pendant to raise my headsail about a foot but as you get used to your boat I think you learn to deal with the lack of visibility. Very easy to point the bow starboard or port just for a second to reveal your blind spot.

Jim,

I like the way you think... RV's have back up cameras, why not a bow cam? I think the Bendy Toy people are following me, so don't be surprised if the next Bendy 50' Sense has a cam system. Most modern plotters will accomodate a cam. Most big boy boats use it to monitor the engine and fuel filters... But I see a future wherein Thermal/infared visual displays become common practice.

And here I thought that was the bow-fluff's job

It'd probably have to be on the spreader to keep out of water's way (oh no not more electronics up the mast) and have huge resolution to be effective but could be useful on a larger boat.

There are many reasons why that would be a less than ideal solution... Without getting into it my 2c is jib pennant (as suggested) and/or learn to use a tiller extension so you can sit more outboard. Depending on how your jib is cut the pennant can be a bit more involved than simply running a short piece of line but almost certainly you can get at least some extension without too much trouble.

Another idea might be to install a periscope in your mast? Hmmmm....

Up at spreader level there's a lot less genny but still you're right.
