Haven't noticed a strictly OB before.
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"> That was my point, I am no expert but I thought OB 27s had the cutout in their transom, and if a boat has an OB with no cut out then there probably is a dead inboard inside. <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
I know of three I can think of right off the bat, they have the outboard mounted on the port side, just like my C-25. To my knowledge none of them ever had an inboard, but I could be wrong.
Looking at the pictures it appears there is an enclosure under the companionway which I don't think the OB boats have. Looks just like the enclosure the C25 inboards have.
The ones I've seen with outboards looked like this:
The opening is to a well with a drain in a transom lazarette of sorts. I suspect C-27s with outboards on transom brackets are "repowered" inboard boats.
Funny, I've never seen one with that sort of outboard set up but I know they were built.
Here is the OB on JV, same kind I have Merc 4 9.9 long shaft.
All three C-27's we race against have the same set up, with different OB's. Wonder if it's a regional thing? maybe all three were inboard and for whatever reason they yanked it out?

They moved the C25 outboard, so why not? <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
I would think so. I'll be going to the marina tonight to cealn up my boat from last weekend, will ask Keelan.
It is quite likely that the early C-27's had the outboard set in the lazarette cut-out (we have one at our marina that way) and later the o/b bracket treatment was established so the lazarette could be closed up and usable for storage, etc. In the very early 70's, I sailed with a guy in FL on a Morgan 24. It had a removable plug in the floor of the lazarette and a molded in bracket for the outboard.

It had a moulded-in mounting bracket in the lazarette for the outboard and a removable plug in the floor (outer hull) for the o/b shaft. Advantages: O/B protected from following seas, prop under hull like an inboard, and motor could be removed and put below easily for racing. Disadvantages: Couldn't use the lazarette for anything but the motor, fuel, etc., had to keep the lazarette lid partially open for ventilation when running the motor.
I sailed on my bosses C27 in the mid-70's and it had the transom cutout with the outboard mounted inside. To me it was a PIA to adjust your speed and control F-N-R.
