I have a solar vent but I recall awhile ago a bunch were interested in a potential group buy regarding Nicro Solar Vents. I received a WM Flyer today in the mail and on the back cover they advertise the Day/Night Plus Solar Vent by Nicro for $99 and lists the regular price between $148 and believe $168 for the white plastic vs stainless steel models. Indicates sale starts MAR 15th and ends APR 1st.

I purchased one last year when W-M had the sale.
It really does the job keeping the humidity low in the boat.
It is well worth the price at $99.
For me, installation could not have been easier.
I used a little geometry and cut a hole in the hatch with my sabre-saw.
Sealed it up top and bottom with silicone and it does not leak.

Bruce - It's a biggy making the decision to cut a hole that size in the hatch. Glad it all worked out so well !!

I had a somewhat different but still successful story regarding my solar vent(s).

PO did not have a solar vent but an opening with a cover in the cabin top just aft of the main cabin bulkhead. I measured the opening and it appeared to be same size for a Nicro Solar Vent and probably was at one time fitted with a solar vent. I installed a Nicro solar vent 6 yrs ago - Just removed cover and pushed in the solar vent - exact fit ! The solar vent worked fine for many years but I then replaced it about a year or so ago because it developed a slight clicking noise that my wife found annoying and I could not eradicate. It was also the older style vent that did not have an off-on pushbutton. I then installed the new Day/Night Plus Solar Vent but the mounting hardware had changed so I had to remove the old housing in the hole and replace with the newer design. New solar vent went dead I believe sometime during it's warranty period and it was not the battery. I contacted Nicro via EMail but since I was concerned about how long it would take to resolve replacement, I bought another one at WM and installed it. Meanwhile, Nicro was actually pretty fast in getting back to me and shipped a new one out to me. So.....I now actually have an extra one at home...You could say a supply support backup !

I had nearly the same experience as Larry, but without the new unit going bad. I was able to remove the old non-working solar vent, located on the foredeck between the anchor locker and the deadlight/skylight. I had to remove the old deck sleeve, fill in and seal the old screw holes and drill new ones, but otherwise it was a direct drop-in. I lucked out on buying the new unit on Ebay. I thought I was getting a 4" unit, but received a 3" one and it worked! So, be sure and measure carefully if you have an old unit to replace.

My problem originally was that I measured the body of the vent, not the diameter of the sleeve. So, as I started to cut, it occurred to me the old adage - "measure twice and cut once".
After I sized it up again, I realized the sleeve was about 1/2" wider than the body.
So I stopped the presses, re-measured and cut the correctly sized hole.
Could have gone bad, but the gods were feeling kindly to me that day and jogged my memory.
