I hope to launch Saturday, this is a bit early but I am afraid of another 110 degree summer so I better get some sailing in now just in case. Anyone else sailing early for their area?
I'm blocked in my boatyard by three big... umm... $+!nkp*+$. I'm ready to paint--hope they all get in early! (The sailboats generally launch later there.)
Unseasonably warm here. We've already raced several weekends this spring, and I went sailing yesterday evening to herald in daylight savings time. Topped out at 75 degrees, sunny, and good wind, hit 5.8 kts. withe main and working jib. In just a few more weeks and Recess will have a new owner, and we'll be back to being a 1-boat family with the C-22. The admiral ain't too happy about it, but that's just the way it has to be!
Hope to be sailing by the end of the month. We hauled the boat out last weekend and as I took a break for a few moments and gazed out at the river, one of my fellow sailors was merrily sailing down the river enjoying the 70+ degree day. I swear I heard them laughing at me! 2 more weeks, 2 more weeks. If I can't get it done in 2 more weeks it doesn't need to be done this year!

I asked my marina whether they still plan to set up our floating docks in time for a May 1 launch again this year (their contractor has to install the docks).
Seeing that the weather has been so mild, I'm lobbying for an April 10 launch (right after Easter).
I think I can rally the troops for an early launch, but the City (who runs the docks) may be bound by a contract with a date certain of May 1.
I am up on the hard in my marina, but since I'm blocked by "Summer Daze" a stinkpot, perhaps - perhaps - perhaps, that guy will get going early due to the nice weather.
I can contract with another mooring facility for the three-four week period so I can launch early, but that puts me on a ball-type mooring in the middle of the river. I do not relish paddling out in 45 degree water however and trying to climb the boarding ladder. I'm pretty much stuck until May 1.
Bruce, you're looking at it the wrong way. It's not "paddling out in 45 degrees", it's giving your muscles the chance to warm up for the long day of sailing, a chance to burn off some excess calories (no offense), a chance to build up some extra muscle mass, AND the opportunity to inspect the water quality around your boat.
