Hey guys I put the Hyde Aweigh on her mooring this morning. The mooning has a double bridle but the lines are quite large and too big to fit my bow cleats. I can loop them over the cleat but I can't knot them. My solution was to loop over the bow cleats and then take smaller dock line and secure/knot over the mooring line.

I suppose you could also rig some kind of a splice using your own line to the mooring bridle but I'm not sure what would be the best way to go about that.

Any ideas?

Your first instinct was good--that's how it's generally done. You can leave a short, small-diameter line tied to the base of one of the cleats, and just do a quick couple of cleat hitches over the pennants when you hook up. You could also just leave the little line in your anchor locker when you're off the mooring.

Thanks Dave, just want to make sure I'm safe when it starts blowing. This is my first time mooring a boat.

That will be safer than smaller-diameter pennants. Your biggest concern is chafe along the rail--the heavier the pennants, the better. Your little "lock line" (I made that up) only needs to keep them from flipping off.

So who ya mooring with? My friend was at Seamore's in Northport. I never moored my boat but always thought that if I did I would try to beef up the backing on the cleats. Catalina only put small washers. Actually they weren't very generous when it came to the cleats themselves.

Scott i Bought my own mooring setup and had it dropped at scudder beach. I can drive my truck with inflatable in the bed down the ramp and drop it in the water so I'll be my own launch service. That's the plan for now anyway. Let me know of you head out this way, I'd love some pointers!
