Mine is a 1997. From what I've read, the Hondas are good engines. I know the PO's weren't that great with maintenance on other parts of the boat. I wouldn't be surprised if they also didn't maintain the engine well. If you are doing the necessary annual maintenance, flushing the engine after use, etc., then from what I've read you should be in good shape.

Thanks Jim, I do flush after each use and keep up with the maintenance. I did have a problem early in the spring, thought it was fuel but turned out to be a bad plug.

Well, I picked up the engine late in the day on Friday. I know the motor mounts are a BIG safety issue; that's fine. But is replacing a water pump, replacing the motor mounts, replacing the thermostat, and tuning the shifting REALLY a $900 job?I'm still left with the impression that they were more interested in selling me a new engine than in helping to keep this one alive.

Might be worth a trip down to my friends at Hilton's. I can't guarantee anything, but my interactions were very good.

Yeah, I agree. I have a buyer lined up, but he seems a little flaky. If he doesn't buy it soon (this week) then I'll probably take it down there to get another estimate.
