My buddy Paul has been experimenting with building a yuloh (if you don't know what this is, and I didn't, type yuloh into your search engine), the asian sculling oar.
The concept is really cool. I have had the experience a couple of times of no wind and dead engine, so how to propel Hey Jude into safety or up the channel and into the slip. I thought about making a pair of oars, but to get the proper length would make storing them a nightmare.
We envision a yuloh that would disassemble into two 8ft. parts, and a pivot board that would be affixed between the vertical stanchions of the stern pulpit. We have not worked out how to attach the lanyard to our boats yet.
Has anyone experience with a yuloh for boats our size?

I know about the type of oar your talking about. Yes they work very well and have been used on boats with a lot more displacment than a C-25. If you want to build a two part Yuloh you canuse a slip joint. I.E. a section of metal tube that slides on the shaft of one section, and can be pinned or bolted when assembled. The oar comes apart and can be stored along the gunnel on deck or monted in brakets attached to the life line stantions ( my spelling sucks)sorry. Hope this helps.
Two things interesting in the photo of the sampan or junk. First, the pivot pin is mounted on the starboard side, so you scull right handed from the center of the cockpit, that's neat.
Second, the curved surface of the blade appears to face aft. In the written descriptions I've seen, the preferred verstion has the flat surface aft, that's the model we are using.
