I'm planning on removing my marine head and putting in a portapotty. To remove the holding tank, however, it appears I'll have to remove a little bulkhead first. It doesn't seem to me that the bulkhead serves a structural purpose, but I'm not a structural engineer either. Does anyone know if that bulkhead is structural and if I can take it out without any problem? I might not even put it back in if it is not really necessary.
The holding tank in the main salon? port and forward? I removed mine without removing the bulkhead - just filed a few small fractions of an inch off the fiberglass flange or lip. Mine was a 1981, #2428.
Wow Frank, that looks really nicely done! Thanks for the pics too. OJ, it is in the main salon, and is the waste holding tank on the port side. I don't see how I could remove the holding tank without removing that bulkhead first. It's not anywhere close to being able to squeeze out. I'll probably remove the water tank on the starboard side too, but I've not made my mind up on that one yet.
I developed a leak where my fresh water tank hose attached and it rotted my bulkhead. I took it out using a cut-off wheel and replaced it with a framed removable bulkhead. The bulkhead is not structural. Just holds the tank in place.
