Gmail routed it into my spam folder with a warning that it was suspicious. Nice catch by you guys and Gmail.

I wonder if he sat in his hut for hours sending individual emails using the site? I'd guess you could send about two-three emails a minute if you were diligent about it. You could also crawl the member list and create a script to do it. It'd take a while to write, but then you could spam the entire member list easily. It could also probably be ported to run against other Snitz forum sites, so it might be worth the investment. Really, all you need is about 1/10 of a 1% response rate to make it worth your while.

The good news is, after all that work, he still doesn't have our e-mail addresses (unless people reply).

I've wondered whether we can detect IP addresses in Africa and block them from the association site, or block them from registering? I don't think we've ever had a legitimate user from anywhere on the continent--just some wacky posts and now this.

Damn.

I was putting together a really good "screw you guys, I'm outta here" post about my new Beneteau Oceanis 58.

Guess I better cancel that order.

Sounds like it is too late for me to claim the funds since you guys all know about it. He promised that it was personal and confidential.

He's probaly sitting in somebody's basement in the Bronx. How could anyone believe that a minister of a government agency would have a "gmail" address?

But, having said that, I'll be sure to make a generous contribution to the Association once the check arrives.

Funny thing, on my AMF Sunbird 16 forum, we have a guy from Africa who writes us about his sails with the Lagos Yacht Club! They're a bunch of expats from all over the world working for an oil company. We're all just trying to figure out how somebody sailed a daysailor from Waterbury CT (where they were built) to Lagos Nigeria!
Oh yeah, and he also gets lottery emails from Africa in his account!
