Taking a poll here. I'm trying to get more educated on the two rating systems. We currently use PHRF for our club races but locally it appears all Regattas use Portsmouth. I'm thinking about changing our club races to Portsmouth. So here is the question: Which rating system does your club use for club races and Regattas?
Fleet Kamikaze 1983 Hull #397 Lake Guntersville, AL
I'm NOT on the racing committee at my club, but it seems that we use PHRF for the keel boats and Portsmouth for the dinghy's when we don't have enough for a one design race.
Ours uses Portsmouth. I am just getting started racing. I was only ever familiar with PHRF, from many years ago. My boat has it's original sails. I have a hangup with my stupid large 6hp motor (long shaft), I can't seem to get it completely out of the water (will likely remove it for the race tomorrow).
I've belonged to Winthrop YC in Boston harbor since 1982 and SSS (Sarasota Sailing Squadren) FLA that has a very active and well run raceing progran since 1997.Both use PHRF.
Once again our race results are in. Wind died for almost 1 hour of the race... Portsmouth ratings... A catboat won overall, a Hunter 25.5 won our fleet (of One Design boats, made up of J/24s, J/22, and several S2 7.9s).
