I finally completed refinishing my 83 Catalina with Interlux Brightsides, installation of the roller furler, and launching it on the Hudson River. I am busy at my work this summer, but we found time take it out for a great first sail!
I uploaded all of the progress pictures at the link below.

Wow! Gorgeous! I like that red. How was it to apply?

Thanks!

Sanding and prep took the most time. Applying the paint wasn't difficult, but masking was a pain in the butt. If I could have done it under a covered canopy of some sort, like a tall carport, it would have been great because the masking was harder to remove after light rains. I still have to buff the rub rail, or just order a new one because of tape adhesive and other small marks.
I sprayed the first three coats, but so much work in masking caused me to revert to rolling with foam rollers. That is easy minus the little air bubbles that you have to tip with your brush. Spraying doesn't require any tipping and looks excellent, but stopping overspray while outside is tricky and masking is more extensive than rolling. If you let it dry completely between coats you have to wet sand in between.
It took about 40 minutes to apply a complete coat of red all around with the roller and having my son help me tip it. I let it dry a day in between each coat then wetsanded. Spray coats are thinner and in good conditions you can probably put three coats on in one day without having to wetsand. You should plan on 3 rolled coats, and depending on how heavy your spray is you could do around 3-5 sprayed coats for good thickness and depth of color. Doing it again, I would set the gun to heavier volume, spray a coat, wait 30min-1hr, then spray again, repeating without letting it completely dry so as to not have to wetsand at all and finish it within one day.

This paint job had two coats of primer, about 5 coats of red. Topsides had one coat of white primer and one coat of Hatteras off-white, boot stripes have two coats of white primer and about 5 coats of hatteras off-white. The bottom has two coats of Primocon underwater primer because I sanded the last bottom job down to the original primer coat and fixed a few small blisters. Then I covered it with two thick coats of Blue Fiberglass NT bottomkote.

Hopefully this helps.

Was crossing the Tappan Zee bridge today around 7:00pm. The river was full of sailboats, and I was wishing it was me out there. The area is near Tarrytown, NY on the Hudson River. West Pt is a little farther upriver. Looks like a beautiful place to sail.

Yes, the Croton-on-Hudson is visible from the Tappan Zee bridge and has a large sailboat community as the river is pretty large there; so does up towards Newburgh. It is very pretty to sail up at West Point but the river is narrow there and the winds are tricky coming down out of the highlands. I do enjoy it because it helps me hone my skills though.
