I've just bought an old Cat 25 and have started to refinish the interior wood. I have found that some of the wood and wood panels will have to be replaced. Any ideas of places to help with these and other parts would be appreciated.
The only options that I'm aware of are to find a boat that is being parted out or to make new ones.
Seateak (http://waterbrands.com/seateak) does make drawer fronts that look nice, but I don't think that any of them are the exact size of the ones on the Catalina 25. I was looking at them as a potential source of drawer fronts to make a teak cabinet that goes where the head vanity lives. On the swap meet there are at least two of us that have been looking for a galley drawer set from a C-25.
Catalina Direct sells most of the exterior teak that is on the C-25, but not the interior.
If you search the forums (there is a search box on the left) you can find other messages concerning replacing the bulkheads.
Welcome to the forum. Lot's of information here. Get familiar with the Search function in the upper right corner. I seem to recall a pretty good discussion about replacing bulkheads some time ago. Additionally, check out Catalina Direct. They're an after market supplier for our boats.
When refinishing the exterior wood, would teak oil be better than varnish? What are the pros and cons of applying teak oil first and then sealing it good with varnish? This restoration is a bit taxing, but very rewarding when things turn out much better than you would expect. I've seen pics of other boats that people have restored and they look great. It's what keeps me driven to complete. This forum has helped in every area of the process. Thanks to all you pros!!
search on Cetol, many thoughts and opinions. I am using teak oil inside, and Cetol light on the exterior wood. I really like the oil finish, and am about 1/3 the way through the interior cabin, including bulkheads.
