i bought on ebay a 15' red LED strip for around 20$, it draws 0,4A
it's perfect for going at night, it lights up the whole cabin and doesn't mess your night vision... i got so used to it that i use it most of the time instead of the regular cabin lights

the strip is in a plastic tube with an adhesive strip on the back but it will come undone when it's warm, i had to use a couple of drops of Crazy Glue

it'similar to this one:

Very practical. I've noticed that I cannot sail at night with white lights down below as it detracts from my night vision. No so with red.

I originally included a comment about the disco mirror ball and the dancing pole. In the interest of "family values", I removed the comment..... ;-)

..or the "red light district" that really lights up the cabin! looks pretty good too. We installed some LED accent lights in place of all of the original RV fixtures. The one at the table has red/white and provides just enough to see a chart.

For those with electronic charts: What do you do for night vision?

I've got a pretty good red setup.. reminds me of a darkroom that I've worked in most of my life.. and I've always wanted to add a Budweiser neon sign on both sides at the front windows, but that would be a ranger magnet.

( much less a bad influence )

On most chart plotters you have the ability to turn the lights down real low. Some sailors have purchased a clear red file folder and cut it to fit.
