Our cruise to Kelly Island included a rainy, stormy day, so we left Pearl at the marina on KI and took the ferry to Put-In-Bay. I saw this beauty being towed up the channel and nudged into a berth. She had been in Toledo for a War of 1812 celebration and made an overnight stop on her way to her home in Erie, PA. Niagra A visitor from 1812, actually a replica of Commodore Perry`s ship

Thanks for posting! The Erie Maritime Museum, where she is berthed, looks like a good weekend trip for this winter. I might couple it with a side trip to the Rock n' Roll Museum in Cleveland.
From the looks of her rigging, she appears to have been very fast and maneuverable for her day. Maybe that's why she won the battle.
As an Erie native, clicking a link to see the Niagara on here is pretty cool! Here's a picture I have of her with a few sails set, from last summer. It was blowing like 25-30kts across the bay this day. Right after the photo we sailed up next to them and they challenged us to a race:
She's a pretty awesome ship, and actually has bits of the original Niagara, though all non-structural. The Maritime museum is really a cool place to visit, if you get the chance. Especially when the Niagara is in town!

Well, except that it is Cleveland and Erie in the winter. A couple of years in the lake effect snow belt was plenty for me. You could actually hit a triple by going during the Cleveland boat show.
The museum in Put-in-Bay has a great account and display of the Battle of Lake Erie. The town has more bars & restaurants than I've ever seen in one place before! The Boardwalk restaurant has incredible po'boy lobster sandwiches and lobster bisque.
The bisque is highly recommended by friends, sailing companions on this trip, who get to New England every year, but the lobster rolls at the Island House on KI gets her nod as being as good as any she gets in Maine.
Hows this for serendipity? Went out sailing yesterday - just putzing around the harbor enjoying a (very) little southern breeze. We were kind of adrift when we spotted a US Navy frigate docked near the airport, probably for the airshow this weekend, so we started heading that way to see. About 9:15 or so the VHF speaks up: "Security, security, security, this is the brig Niagara, we will be departing pier 12 and the cuyahoga river in one minute. Thank you for your hospitality"
We did our best to chase her down, and got pretty close - but her diesels are faster than my outboard, and none of the pictures we took show anything but a steaming light in an otherwise black image.
Not quite, John, Although your confusion is definitely my fault. I moved to Cleveland last winter, so I sail my boat here now. (And other people's boats in Erie!)

Where's you slip?

I'm at Edgewater marina this summer. We mostly sail weekdays, but I'd be glad to have you aboard any time! Could probably teach me a thing or two
