Does anyone here sail their C25 on Oneida Lake, NY? My wife is from there and we were visiting family on the lake. The lake is roughly 8 miles X 2 miles. There were a number of sailboats at the marina. I'd like to connect with someone next summer there to try it out.
Thanks,

The original PO of our C25 sailed Oneida Lake. From the paper work left on board it would appear there is/was an active racing program there...may help in tracking down local info.
10 years ago I was on my brothers trawler and we passed through Onieda lake on the Erie canal . My only memory was , there was a lot of seaweed/grass in the lake??
Bruce - I checked the map and found none. I'll check with the guy that I got my sail cover from, he is at the Western end of the lake.
Frank - Thanks for the heads up, not sure of the depth but that sounds like it might be shallow. According to Wikipedia, the average depth is 22 feet. Does anyone have a map of that lake from a GPS SDcard?
folks average depths that high means DEEP! ex: average depth of Barnegat bay is 1.5 meters. There are still 100ft long barges on it on a regular basis.

Those barges must be very careful to stay in their channels! By comparison, the average depth of Cayuga Lake (in the Fingers) is 54', and Seneca is 291' (average!). From a ride I had on Oneida quite a few years ago, I got the impression weeds were a major factor. We had to clear the prop several times... And zebra mussels are changing things in all of those lakes.
Dave - Thanks for the info. I bought a mainsail cover from a guy in Brewerton who is also making me a tiller cover. I'm going to ask him about doing the Sunbrella strip on my jib. I'll let you know about the weeds this summer if I find someone up there to sail with.
