Checked out the boat after 7 months and it was dry as a bone inside! However, the plastic rollers on the main sheet traveler are shot. Is there a better way than drilling out the pins and installing rollers with bolts? I checked the tech tips and nothing popped up.

Hi Dennis,

A few years ago I went the route of drilling the rivets to replace the sheaves then bolted them in place. Unfortunately the sheaves didn't last long and are due for a replacement this spring. I read of one person replacing the traveler with a unit from Garhauer. I can't recall the unit's nomenclature or it's price.

Dennis,

I replaced my warn out traveler and slide with original equipment from Catalina Direct. The price was reasonable for the quality of equipment, which is not great. The original lasted 13 years so I was more concerned with price.

I also replaced my mainsheet traveler last year with one that I got from my Catalina dealer. It is identical to the original one, except the sheaves are held in place by bolts, instead of rivets, which makes the sheaves easily replaceable.

You can get just the sheaves and bushings from Garhauer.

As OJ mentioned, the original manufacturer, Garhauer, sells a reasonably priced C-25 traveler rebuild kit. Once upon a time, Dave Laux (a C-25 tech. advice wizard) posted a traveler repair method using non-Garhauer parts. I may try the Dave Laux method sometime in the next few weeks. If I can get it to work, I'll try to post a report here, possibly with illustrations.
