To everyone that did the mod, be it to the catbird seats or cabin sole, etc. I've read the old posts a few times and my only question is now that a few years have passed, anything you wish you had done differently?
I'm dropping mine to a single this spring. Thanks! Will
I don't remember ever seeing anyone attach the backstay to the catbird seats. How is this done? I always assumed that the stresses on the seat would be excessive and could rip it out of the thin fiberglass, or buckle the tubing. Is there a writeup of a plan to attach there with adequate reinforcement?
My boat came with the split backstay attached to the catbird seats. Never had a problem with them and the nice thing is I can get behind the wheel quickly without hanging myself.
I switched to a single backstay several years ago. I attached the backstay to the outside of the starboard catbird seat using a pulpit anchor. It looks similar to frog0911's setup except I attached it to the pulpit anchor with a setup similar to a boom vang. It has withstood winds in excess of 70 mph that tore away several of our dock sections and broke off several pilings. I have had no problems with it at all.

The pulpit anchor is a stainless-steel clip that fits around a 1" tube and is used to attach safety lines etc. I use only use one block and tackle at the pulpit anchor on the catbird seat - looks similar to frog0911's set up but obviously is not welded. I did not cut the backstay but used the end where it was originally split so that I can easily convert it back to the original configuration. At that position it does not interfere with the bimini either. I also use one to attach and position Arlyn's soft-link to the starboard catbird seat. Have never used or tried posting pics.
