I've gone through several failed iterations of a hard link for SL, and I've been noodling on a weight & pulley system that I think would work, but it seems complex compared to Arlyn's soft link. My problem is that the engine is Garelick scissor mount, so (A) it moves vertically & (B) moves horizontally from when it's up (forward & up), or down (back & down). It seems like the bungee angle is too shallow although I think I could possibly increase the angle by using an extension from under the catbird seat. I already have an extension on the rudder that will help on that side, but it may need to be longer.

I'm curious if anyone else has made this work with an extension mount, and if so, if you've got pictures of it or a description of the installation I could reference.

I've got what I think is a proof of concept going. Here are a few pictures of the process:

Here you can see where the lever arm attached to the to the port side isn't going to work as it hits the tiller of the outboard.

I've created an aluminum bracket that fits on the starboard side instead, and offset by two inches. It's attached to a (currently) 36" piece of 1" Ipe (Ironwood). It's currently too long (I hope), and I've got a sliding eye bolt that I'll be able to clamp along the length until I find the sweet spot where the outboard & rudder turn in sync with each other. Once I find that, I can bolt the bracket to the lever arm, and cut off any excess. I'm expecting to have to cut off around 4-6" or so. There will be a jam cleat at the rudder end of the lever arm so the controlling line can be released so the outboard can be tilted & raised & lowered. The other end will have the bracket with an eye bolt attached with a small block to route the controlling line to the outboard. I'm a bit concerned about the length of the lever arm sticking out into the fairway, so I've allowed for it to be easily removed with thumb screws if necessary.

Here's another view:

The control line will be routed to the outboard, and I plan to drill a 1/4" hole to mount another eye bolt on either side of the outboard with large fender washers to spread the load. The eye bolt on the other side will connect to the bungee on the starboard side to provide the pull necessary to make it all work.

I don't have pictures of the new bracket & new lever arm, but I hope to get a chance to get them installed over the weekend.
