Howdy folks,
Joined the association a few months ago, and have been soaking up some of the great knowledge on this site. I wanted to take this opportunity to check in and say hello, and thanks! Wife and I are brand new sailors, and as I have found on here, not the first to try and realize a long dream of taking up sailing.

After a ton of research, much of it on this site, we jumped in and bought a C25 back in December. Since the purchase included 8 months of slip fees and professional instruction, the deal was too good to pass up. Since then I've been making the minor repairs that are needed on the boat, and learning all I can about my upcoming projects-- trailering and keel maintenance to start with.

I'm sure I'll be back with a ton of questions, but for right now I'll just say it's great to be aboard!

Welcome to the Association; enjoy your boat!

I've been to Austin several times on business. It's one of my favorite places to visit.

Welcome aboard Tim!

Which marina is home? I've got many miles of boating under my belt on Lake Travis since the late 60's. Wsh I lived near the lake.

Welcome aboard! Newbies not only ask a lot of questions, but they also influence our perspective and keep the forum alive. Ask away, and don't be shy if you have an idea or opinion.

Congratulations Tim (and your Admiral)! You've found one of the best features of the C-25, and one of the best sailing communities on the web--something that influenced my purchase. I'm an alumnus now, due to life changes, but am still fond of my old Passage (who's in good hands now) and of this community.

I assume, if you've been following things here, that you've also found Catalina Direct and know about their C-25 Owner's Handbook. Hardly any 25+ year-old boats (other than the C-22) have that kind of resource.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome!

GaryB-- In a slip at Marshall's Ford right now. I don't think you would recognize Lake Travis at this point. The years of drought have been very cruel. I finally found ONE ramp available for me to load up and move the boat closer to home. Once I solve the trailer challenge that is.

Ftworthsailor-- I've been closely following some of your posts. You are pretty much blazing the exact trail I'm heading down. Maybe my first question for the forum is: Where in the world are all the trailers that these boats were originally sold with??

Dave Bristle-- The PO was kind enough to pass along his copy of the handbook. Catalina Direct is a great resource, as my bank account will attest.

Tim

I'm well aware of "our" lakes condition. I keep up with things around the lake through the Oasis Cam, LCRA website, and a 3 - 4 day visit every year.

Currently coming up on 50.5' below pool level and now the LCRA is releasing water everyday to maintain downstream flow for the endangered Blue Suckers fish that is spawning until the end of May.

With the combined storage of Lake Buchanan and Lake Travis at 41% the people in Austin are going to be on the endangered list by the end of the summer!

you said: "Where in the world are all the trailers that these boats were originally sold with??"

I have had this discussion with many of my friends and we came to the conclusion that fixed keel boats probably weren't sold with trailers because most people that want a trailerable boat end up purchasing a swing keel boat.

I actually was shopping for a fixer upper swing keel boat when I came across this one. From the moment I saw her, it was an instant love-at-first-sight! She has a beautiful deep blue hull (my favorite color)

I have wanted a C-25 ever since I saw my first one at Catalina Island. I could never afford them so just let it pass.... Now, here I am, thousands of miles from the pacific ocean and the islands that I spend many years sailing and diving, just never on my own sailboat.... many years later, here I am in Texase, I have an urge to get back into sailing and I come across this great deal on a C-22, PT,SK. I buy her, fix her up and she is a great way to sail.

Then, six months later, while I am out on Craigslist looking for PARTS for my C-22, I come across an ad for a $1000. C-25, FK, roller furling jib, on a trailer......just needed lots of work and had about 12-15 inches of water inside.

Anyway, long story short, lots of work done and lots more to do. I am just anxious to get her launched.....

I had the original paperwork from my Catalina 25 (fin keel/tall rig). It was not sold with a trailer. I know quite a few Catalina 25 and Catalina 22 owners around Seattle and none of them have had trailers for their boats.

I was okay not having a trailer, my little Subaru couldn't have pulled it and my little urban lot offers nowhere to store it.
