I searched the threads and didn't really see anything that answered my questions. I just got a hard-bottom RHIB from a neighbor with a 2-stroke 4hp outboard. I'm curious as to a few thing:
1. With the rigid hull, I assume the dinghy will tow OK. However, I always hear about removing the outboard and storing on a rail mount to prevent the dinghy from "wheelie-ing" while under tow. Is this a big deal? I only cruise the Narragansett bay. I tend to steer clear of big-seas but I know they can pop up without warning and I'd hate to capsize the dinghy and lose the motor.
2. If I do rail mount, where would I put the outboard? Starboard stern rail would block the swim ladder and port side would add too much weight because my outboard is there. Any other thoughts?
3. Bringing the motor to-and-from the dinghy rack seems like a headache. What are people doing to alleviate this? I was thinking about putting a motor mount on my heavy-duty Thule bicycle trailer that goes into my hitch. I don't see how to transport the outboard vertically in the back of my Ford Escape otherwise?
Thanks! Billy

I carried my 2hp outboard on starboard, above the primary motor. I used a rail mount and had to kick the dinghy outboard up to also be able to kick the primary outboard up.
You could probably mount it on center and kick it up to clear the rudder and transom. My Catalina 25 had a solar panel there.
My dinghy outboard is a 25lb Honda 2hp motor, so it has little effect on boat trim.
