cracked the little deck light in the bow by standing on it. Has anyone repaired this in the past?

I tried the CD direct replacement and could not get it to seal correctly. Still leaks. Need to replace it with something else.

I think I might glue it up from the bottom, ( glue on a larger piece of plexi on the under side of the deck. ) and then fill from the top with resin. Then cap with the CD direct part to make it flush.

That should seal it up and make it stronger.

The Catalina Direct kit worked for me (although I didn't use the inside lens they provided). It's meant to be set into a heavy bead of silicone so the sealer fills in around the sides. But if I had to do it again, I'd have a plastic shop cut a thicker piece of Lexan and bevel the top edges slighly to make an even stronger lens.

I bedded mine in polysulfide... apparently not the right material for this application. I'll try it again with silicone.

I bed mine with boatlife.

I think it was 3 years ago. No trouble since. Maybe I'm the anomoly. I also had the replacement prism made up by a local plastics shop. Using the drawing Redeye posted, with a couple customizations...

I used thicker plastic and had it bevelled at about 5° to eliminate the raised lip others have had issue with.

Blogpost is here, but the pics went AWOL a while back. http://frosthaus.blogspot.ca/2010/07/a-room-with-view.html

Polysulfide (Boatlife Life Caulk) is "incompatible" with most plastics. I don't really know the consequences of that, but I go with Boatlife Life Seal with plastics--it's a silicone-polyurethane hybrid that's compatible with plastics, is moderately adhesive, but is removable without taking gelcoat with it (like polysulfide).

I made a new one out of 1/4" thick translucent white acrylic. We used LifeSeal, not LifeCaulk.

I cut it on a small CNC mill and can share the drawing for that if it is helpful. I found that the dimensions in the Catalina drawing were a bit off and had to cut it 1/8" smaller.

Ah Ha... I went with boatlife caulk and it has been leaking. A real bummer... Next time ( which should be soon ) I'll try boatlife Seal.

Yep... just a tad smaller would have been better for mine also.
