I have a matrix 15 fish finder by hummingbird and depth/speed meter. It says you can add a GPS. Do these work for a sail boat or is it outdated. It's free because I have it just wondering if anyone has used one on a sail boat. Doesn't seem like the mount would be too bad.
It has a LCD readout and its seems easy to mount. Just wondering if it would work well enough.
The first question might be where/how you plan to mount the transducer. Transom mounts don't really work on sailboats, because the transducer won't stay in the water. Next is a hole in the bottom... I wouldn't rush to do that. Many folks have installed them to shoot through the hull (no hole) by setting the transducer in a blob of toilet seal wax in the bilge, making sure to eliminate any air bubbles. There are countless threads on that here--search for "transducer".
There are also lots of options for mounting the display--do a search for "swing mount" in our forums to see some nice stow-away systems people have made. I think there are some pix in the Technical Tips section, too.
Ok . Question. If I have a sensor in the hull now but the LCD doesn't work. Is the a chance I can replace the readout. Is the a way to test the sensor with an ohm meter or voltmeter
