I have decided to come out of the lurker woodwork. I have purchased my first boat (1982 TR/FK) back in November and have been impatiently awaiting the spring thaw. (approx 98.5 days till splash) Still waiting to take it for our first sail. I am worse then a kid who got his dream bicycle for Christmas...I can't even ride it in the basement.
The Boat: I purchased the boat from a great previous owner who had a hard time letting her go. The boat is in great shape, he has taken care of her and he has been very very helpful with the transaction..and we still keep in contact.
The Owner: (so you can put an identity to my posts) I am 25, married and have a 1 year old precious daughter. I am relatively new to sailing, but I have cruised and raced on a C&C 30 for a great Skipper, both are currently in the Bahamas and fly spinaker on a C&C 25 during the frostbite regatta's. I have also been certified by the Canadian Yachting Association. I can't get enough of sailing, it is a great hobby,sport...marriage.<img src=icon_smile_clown.gif border=0 align=middle>
The Forum: I have learned so much already from this forum and from you guys that I don't have any questions right now....I am sure once the snow goes away that will soon change. I do check in a couple times a day to see whats going on.
Thanks for a great resource, it has made me much more comfortable as a new boat owner.
I know what you mean about impatiently awaiting the spring thaw. I also purchased my C25 in the fall and had to wait 7 months before splashing(nearly killed me!).
I'm sure you and your family are going to love the new boat.

Sounds like you have some answers as well as (eventually) some questions. Jump right in--the water's fine! And congratulations on a great first boat as well as a good P.O.

<b>"Well, Corey, I don't know that even our esteemed Master Marine Consultant has been Certified..."</b>
Certified or <i>Certifiable</i>? <img src=icon_smile_clown.gif border=0 align=middle>
I was a certified lifeguard some 20 years and 40 lbs ago...or was that 40 years and 20 lbs ago? <img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle>
The certification (for competent CYA Skipper and Crew)wasn't that hard. I had signed up at the local Yacht Club for Adult Keelboat Course and at the end of the program the teacher was going for certification and had invited his students to challenge for the certification since a CYA instructor would be in the area at that time anyway. This was the first time that the YC offered this and will not happen again. Out of 6 students 4 of us went for it and 2 of us passed as well as our teacher. It was a 2 hour written test and a 3 hour on water test..It was pretty much straight forward and anybody who has spent a couple of seasons on the water wouldn't have a hard time at all. The weather was perfect for the testing as well. The biggest benifit is the 10% insurance break. The Advanced course will be much more demanding.

Hey dave, looks like your the next Master Marine Guy on the list, Please invite me to the coronation...And just think, if you didn't start over after the first hundred posts....
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>Corey: BTW: I think the boat name is a "hoot'! Is that your idea or does the PO get credit? <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>
I renamed the boat because the PO kept the original name, I did struggle for a couple months, but finally came up with this one...I love it, and I have never heard of it on another boat around Lake Ontario.
Now for my first question, How do I properly rename the boat to keep the Sea Gods on my good side?

Corey; Where do you plan to get your boat wet? I too had to wait for spring after buying our boat. We more than made up for it when spring arrived. I hope winter is't too long but anticipation is part of the fun. Albert "Blue Sky" SR/FK 3260

I will be sailing out of the Bay Of Quinte area, from here I can take the Murray Canel or the Reaches out to Lake Ontario A Devries are you on Lake Ontario.....Is anybody else on Lake Ontario?
Corey we are in Lake Erie sailing out of Port Stanley. As far as I know we are the only C 25 there. The Bay of Quinte must be a great place to sail. How many days now? <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Albert

Albert
Were roughly docked 54 miles to your south...give or take some...
Last summer being our first summer with our boat saw us be quite conservative. We where never out of site of our harbour. I'm planning on some extended sailing this summer so the other side of the lake may not be out of the question. Watch out Duane and Don I'll be the boat that tacks the moment it gets in site of land. Albert
