Motorcycle racing season has been in full swing so the boat project took a bit of a back seat lately. Couple of days ago lightning hit the tree behind the boat, traveled throgh the ground to the mast then exited out of the tongue of the trailer. It was both the brightest and most loud thing I've ever experienced(and that was from inside the house). The boat was covered in mud and grass, but doesn't seem to have suffered any damage, although I am quite sure it killed the electronics. Definatly could have been worse
Whew! Interesting trip that bolt took! Not much hope for the electronics--it generated a huge magnetic pulse that could have even gotten stuff in your house. Your mast wiring could be toast, too. Hope I'm wrong--the odds of that are generally good.
It got my TV and home theater, router, a few light bulbs, cell phone(that was in my pocket), and garage door opener. Definitely could have been worse. The AC unit was right next to the strike and came out alive. When the garage door wouldn't open I was terrified it had killed the ECU's in my bikes, but all was well there
