Cancelled races because there was too much wind? Cancelled races because the wind was coming from the wrong direction? Cancelled races because of too little wind?
Maybe like Coke Classic they will have America's Cup Classic.
Whew! I'm glad I didn't read this thread again after I knew the race was on. I just got done watching it, and managed to not know who was the winner (although Rita had basically given it away).
I'm not a Larry Ellison fan, but his vision for this AC was amazing--although he couldn't have envisioned this turn of events! SF Bay makes a the best AC environment I've ever seen, and those AC-72 boats are something. (...although not as technically amazing as some make out--the technology has been around in C-class cats and a few other things--just scaled up.) I wonder how the on-shore viewing was--it looked like it could have been pretty good. The TV coverage was outstanding--the play-by-play folks really knew their stuff and helped increase the excitement. The camera work and graphic enhancements (as in football) set a new standard.
When Oracle submarined at the first mark, I thought that might be it. But they didn't! (It could've been a pitchpole!)
Congratulations Larry and Oracle Team AusUSA!
(I wonder when the six New Zealanders on the Oracle crew will be able to go home.)
I hadn't followed it at all, but just watched the YouTube video of the final race. I agree, amazing vision, and huge gample by Larry Ellison in pulling this off. I can now see why he is a billionaire .... and why I'm not.

The 6 New Zealanders ??? The crew was basically Aussies . That's why all Australia was baraking for Oracle . The Skipper and Mainsheet ( Wing ) all come from a few miles from here . Lake Macquarie nsw . one lives 4 doors away . The skipper is now a married to American . so we can both claim him. Love the SF setting . And note today was the 30 year anniversary of Austral;ias great win .Great coincidence

I don't know about the design, engineering, and construction teams... They started with a slower boat and ended with a faster one--both teams agree that was the difference.
But there were (I think) six Kiwis that would probably like to go home some day, to a country that's apparently shattered by this. This was bigger to them than a Superbowl is in the USA--literally, based on the audience, especially when you consider the races were at 3 AM (?) over there. I haven't heard a word about this, but I really wonder about those six guys...
BTW, I just watched a replay of the news conference with both teams... Amusing and inspiring. I know there were lots of huge contributors to the outcome, but if anyone wants to point to who held this comeback together, I think it has to be Jimmy Spithill--he's an impressive young man!
And the media would probably be talking about the foolish and colossal waste of money on Ellison's part if ENZ had won. Nothing against Ellison's effort, but if you win then we assume that you are brilliant and did everything right.
I expected the last race to be much closer. What a finish! BTW, I have gone 50ish on a jet ski. Scared the crap out of me the first time I did it. Be interesting to see if Ellison stays with the AC72 or downsizes for the next Cup! BTW, what happened to the previous Oracle cup boat, the 90' trimaran? Is it still being sailed, still in San Diego?
