Painted the bottom.. Saved up for a while to have the money, and worked out to get in shape enough to make it happen, and still had some knee trouble for a few days afterwards. Talk about fun...

An old salt at the marina told a few years back when I was sanding away 6-7 layers of bottom paint..."you don't really "own" a boat until you do the bottom yourself"...will pay someone next time. Just glad the military kept me stocked with "vitamin M".

Soda blasting... I should have soda blasted... I think the price of the kits from Harbor freight make it a worthwhile investment...
I scraped mine last winter (see Capri 25 bottom job pictures here)....

CP25 Bottom Scrape/Fair[/url]
I am going to use this album to document my progress with the boat over the colder months...

Sanding, then barrier coat, then bottom paint... Then stupid me, did a topside job... NEVER again (at least NOT like that)... Soda blasting!

If you're going to soda blast, do yourself a favor & get as big a compressor as you can afford. They eat air at a ferocious rate, and don't work very well below about 100psi. If you don't have enough capacity to keep the flow rate at that pressure, you're going to spend a lot more time working on your bottom than you want to (trust me). I used a HF soda blaster to do my bottom, and never again. I'll pay someone else with a proper soda blaster to do it instead of spending 4-ish months crouched under the boat waiting for my air tank to get enough in it to blast for another 2-3 minutes.

<< Probably never do it again. >>

But you miss all the fun...

Everyone that goes sailing with me signs a boilerplate liability release that has tiny print saying they will help sanding on the next bottom job.

Personally I miss the boaryard experience.. It builds character...

In CT, the boat must be tented (with a floor) before blasting. I don't know what they do with the mess... I doubt any yards around here allow DIY blasting.
