I noticed that one of the blades from the paddlewheel of my knot meter is broken. Has anyone replaced this and if so, where did you get the paddlewheel from. I thought I saw something about this is the past but couldn't get it to come up on a search through the archives. Thanks for any input. Bob VanWyen
Bob - call the manufacturer of your unit. I too had a wheel break and bought a new one from the company. It replaced easily by removing a pin that goes thru the axle. (I also replaced it while the boat was in the water - but that's another story!) Derek
Glad to hear someone else has the same problem. I assumed I would have to make a total replacement. Mine is a VDO unit so am wondering if it is even made any more. I believe that Siemans bought them out. So interested to hear where these can be found.
Bob, Derek makes a good point: "call manufacturer". I had the same blade loss problem but I called Catalina and they gave me the phone number of the manufacturer of my impeller who then gave me a phone number somewhere else (Los Angeles) that had taken over the replacement parts business. However, I don't have that phone number anymore so can't get that for you. Simple to replace and then it works better....the knotmeter will say you're sailing faster, too!!
Thanks for the input. I called the manufacturer today(SR Mariner) on their toll free number and they sell the paddlewheel replacement part. They also sell a cover for the outside of the knotmeter which I couldn't purchase from any of the Marine stores locally. Thanks for the help to all who replied. Bob VanWyen
Bob - if their cover for the dial of the knotmeter is a white square plastic one, be careful! I went through 4 of 'em which blew off & disappeared in the oggin when a stiff wind blew. Then I got wise and made a sunbrella cover which covers both my instruments and prevents the UV degradation of the readout. Derek
