Has anyone heard about the "Catalina's to Catalina" Event that is going to be scheduled on August 11 through the 17. This is being promotes as a Catalina 22 event, however I am seriously thinking about doing this event with my Catalina 25. Are any of you that live nearer to Los Angeles (San Pedro, CA) than I do, interested attending this event? Details are not out yet, however will be coming out soon.

I received permission to show the Mainbrace pages for this event. see www.hinrichs-usa.com/c2cc.pdf and www.hinrichs-usa.com/c2cc.2.pdf

Let me know if any of you are interested in doing this....

I usually make our annual Catalina trip in August but have not set a date yet. Here's the thing, Avalon is a first come, first served harbor so Monday is a good day to arrive as the weekenders depart. However I have arrrived on Monday before and been placed in the overflow in Descanso bay which is not as protected and a longer ferry/dinghy ride to Avalon. If the C22 group wants to be together they would be better served to all head to Two Harbors where they can line up on the stringline. Then they could head to Avalon at their leisure if they choose to do so. It will be hard to keep a group together in Avalon except when all are ashore. The larger the group the greater the difficulty.

I don't think everyone is going to go directly to Avalon. I know that I am going to spend my time sailing around the island as opposed to spending time and money in Avalon. That is also why the group planned for a Monday sail over to the island. As I understand it, most will be going to Two Harbors.....but this is not certain.

I would also presume that anyone wanting to get off their boat would need to make their own hotel reservations, etc.... before arriving on the island.

I haven't been to the island for more than 15 years, so am excited about the sail over and possibly doing some scuba diving while I am sailing around it (I use to be a SI). So have all the gear. and if I am lucky enough, I will get my tanks refilled when a Dive boat happens by. Otherwise, I can do that at Avalon.

So far, it sounds like it will be an awesome trip..... I am just in need of a boat.... Not sure if they RENT Catalina Sailboat anywhere near Los Angeles, but it would be much nicer for us to fly to LA and not have to trailer mine out there. But who knows.... I will figure it out.

I am wildly envious of everyone that will be able to make this trip!!! We sailed out of Ventura from 1974 to 1980, and made many trips down the coast to Catalina! One of our favorite places to pick up a mooring was Moonstone Bay. Watching the Buffalo up on the hill was always a hoot while having morning coffee and breakfast in the cockpit. We would load up a couple of boats and sail south from Moonstone to Avalon for a day trip into Avalon to minimize the hassle of finding a mooring for everyone. However, sunset and evening in Avalon is just simply sooooooo cool!

Enjoy!!!!!!

Us, currently snowbound, East coast folk are envious of an organized event to such a neat location. One of those "bucket list" sails is to Catalina Islands.
