Before I put the boat back in the water, I'm thinking about doing something about the almost useless cockpit drains. I'm getting the bottom paint blasted off next week. I gave up on sanding about 3' from the bow :)

I'm thinking I want to fiberglass over the existing drains in the hull and add some descent scuppers in the stern. The drains are pretty close to the stern. Less than 2" from the drain hole to the back edge of the stern. Its not enough space to radius out with a taper and then glass back in. I've always gone about 10 x hull thickness on my taper when I've patch holes in the past.

Has anyone done this before? Any lessons learned from the project?

Anyone who has sailed the Capri 25 will realize that that is ingress as well as egress... downwind those scuppers would be "problematic" at best (think continuously full of water). I know Doug had to make them that size to satisfy the drainage requirements for the cockpit though.
