Well I'm back. We have turned the corner and it won't be long now. Over the Winter I purchased a Stereo System, a Solar Panel, and a Tiller Tamer (Which I will be installing each upgrade my self). I'll be asking questions soon! The bad news is that my boat yard has reccomended that I sand blast the keel and feather out a rust divit on the keel. Then they say I need 5 coats of barrier and then the 2 coats of bottom paint. As you can imagine it's quite expensive. However, I love the boat and I intend to keep her a long time. She is an 1982 full Keel in great shape. The only problem is that the past owner kept scraping and patching and the bottom paint just chips off. Ther is no major blistering so I feel it will come out great. Any input would be great.
Check to see if your "fin keel" (not full-keel) has the "smile" while your messing around on the bottom; now's the time to glass it over and fair it if so.
Sounds like you've got some fun projects lined up after the bottom job is done.

If you sandblast (a controversial method) or otherwise strip the bottom and keel, I believe you should start with a specific ferrous metal primer (or "rust reformer") before applying the epoxy barrier coat. Otherwise, that nice new finish is probably going to flake off the keel. The barrier coat instructions may speak to this...
