We are getting geared up for our first season of serious racing. Our boat is nothing like ready but we're not sailing well enough for the gear to make the difference - yet. There are several series around here - Casco Bay - that we plan to take part in and a couple of longer races. The longer jobs all require ORC category 3 or 4 approval. I think that Cat 3 is out of the question - you need to have an inboard engine - but we're right on the edge of Cat 4. The issues are the nav lights - which must be above the sheer (our boat has the cat eye lights) - and the cockpit volume which is in excess of the permitted size.
Anyone been able to meet Cat 4 (or 3) requirements or been waived in?
